Keeping Pigs for Meat - Make Sausages - Keeping Chickens for Eggs - Cure & Smoke Streaky Bacon - Grow Tomatoes & Make Tomato Ketchup

Join us for a day in our yurt learning how to produce outstanding sausages, free range eggs and home cured bacon.

 

We start the day meeting the pigs and learning about how to raise pigs for meat. We cover housing and welfare, choosing a breed, feed and take a look at the essential legal considerations.

 

Next we'll make sausages with your choice of flavourings.

 

We meet the chickens and learn about how to keep them healthy, happy (and in accordance with the rules) so that they keep you in ready supply of delicious eggs.

 

Later we cure a piece of belly pork to make streaky bacon and learn about how to smoke it over woodchips.

 

To finish it all off we learn about growing tomatoes and make them into a delicious home produced tomato ketchup.

 

Courses include tea, coffee and pastries on arrival, a glorious lunch and then tea, coffee and cake in the afternoon.

 

You will take home your sausages (most of them - we'll eat some for lunch), your piece of belly pork to finish off curing into bacon, tomato ketchup, recipe cards, course notes and hopefully a big smile and huge sense of achievement!

 

Courses run from 9:30 - 16:30

 

Our course numbers are kept small to ensure that you get the most from the day.
